A Vietnamese recipe blog reportedly generated $15,265.53 in one month from 5.43 million Popunder impressions. The interesting part is that the publisher did not target Vietnamese users. The blog was written in English around authentic Vietnamese recipes, and the United States reportedly generated almost 76% of the month’s revenue.

The content stayed local while the audience became global
The publisher describes a deliberate strategy: keep recipes authentically Vietnamese, but explain ingredients, regional variations and preparation techniques in English. That gives the content a distinct expertise angle while making it searchable by users in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
This is different from translating generic recipe pages. The competitive advantage comes from firsthand culinary knowledge and detail that a broad “Asian recipes” site may not provide.
Why the US revenue share matters
The original case reports that the US represented 38.7% of impressions but 75.9% of revenue. That illustrates how monetization can reward commercially valuable geography more than raw traffic volume.
A publisher should therefore analyze country-level revenue alongside Search Console and analytics. A smaller but higher-value audience can influence content priorities, language and distribution strategy.
What publishers can copy
- Use genuine subject expertise rather than generic rewriting.
- Write in the language of the target search market when it makes editorial sense.
- Explain regional terms and ingredients instead of erasing them.
- Track traffic and revenue by country.
- Keep high-impact monetization separate from the core recipe instructions.
- Add a second ad format only after the first has stable data.
What the $15K month does not prove
It does not mean an English recipe blog will automatically attract US traffic. The reported site had enough search visibility to generate more than five million monthly ad impressions. It also does not mean the reported CPM will repeat every month.
Food content can be highly competitive. Original photography, tested measurements, author expertise and clear sourcing remain more important than simply adding “authentic” to a title.
Editorial trust matters in food content
Recipe publishers should make it clear who developed or tested a recipe, identify substitutions carefully and avoid copying photos or instructions from other creators. Strong E-E-A-T signals are useful for readers even before they are useful for search engines.
