YouTube Mobile Live Streaming in 2026: 50 Subscribers, 24-Hour Wait & Limits

YouTube mobile live streaming has stricter requirements than desktop streaming. In 2026, creators using the YouTube mobile app need to meet a subscriber minimum and channel-safety requirements before they can go live.

Minimum requirements for mobile live streaming

YouTube currently requires:

  • At least 50 subscribers.
  • No live-streaming restrictions on the channel within the last 90 days.
  • A verified channel.
  • Live streaming enabled on the channel.
  • A supported Android or iOS device.

Your first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours

After enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Do not plan a time-sensitive first mobile broadcast until the feature is actually available.

What happens between 50 and 1,000 subscribers?

Channels with at least 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers can use mobile live streaming, but YouTube may limit the number of viewers who can watch the mobile stream.

YouTube also says the archived live stream can be set to Private by default while the channel is under 1,000 subscribers.

What changes after 1,000 subscribers?

After the channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, YouTube can remove the mobile live audience limitation. The platform notes that this change may take several weeks to process.

If the channel later drops below 1,000 subscribers, the audience limitation can return. Mobile live access itself is not lost unless the channel falls below the minimum requirement.

Desktop streaming is a different path

The 50-subscriber requirement applies to mobile live streaming through the YouTube app. Webcam and encoder-based desktop workflows have different eligibility and setup rules.

For encoder configuration, see our YouTube Live Encoder Settings guide.

Before your first mobile stream

  1. Verify the channel.
  2. Enable live streaming at least a day before the event.
  3. Check for active live restrictions.
  4. Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers.
  5. Test microphone, camera orientation and connection quality.
  6. Review the archive visibility after the stream ends.

Mobile live stream strategy

Mobile live is useful for events, field reporting, behind-the-scenes streams and quick community sessions. For planned productions with multiple cameras, overlays or higher bitrate control, an encoder workflow is usually more flexible.
