YouTube scheduled publishing lets creators upload a video early, finish checks and metadata, and automatically make the video public at a chosen date and time.
How scheduled publishing works
To schedule a video, upload it in YouTube Studio, complete the video details and choose Schedule instead of publishing immediately. You can then choose the date, time and time zone for publication.
Scheduled videos remain private before release
The scheduled workflow is essentially a private-to-public transition. Before the selected time, the video is not publicly available like a normal public upload.
Why scheduling is useful
- Finish copyright and ad-suitability checks before launch.
- Coordinate videos with newsletters or social posts.
- Maintain a consistent upload cadence.
- Publish while you are offline.
- Prepare multiple videos in advance.
Scheduling is especially useful for creators who batch production. See our YouTube upload frequency guide for a sustainable cadence framework.
How to change a scheduled time
You can edit a scheduled video’s visibility and change the scheduled date or time before publication. If you want to publish immediately, switch the visibility to Public.
Time zone matters
When scheduling, use the time zone shown in the scheduling interface carefully. A creator managing an international audience should plan around the viewers’ active hours rather than only the creator’s local clock.
Why the watch-page date can look different
YouTube says the “Published on” date shown on a watch page is based on Pacific Time. This means creators in time zones ahead of the U.S. Pacific zone can sometimes see a different calendar date on the watch page than expected.
Community Guidelines strike limitation
If a channel is in a Community Guidelines penalty period, YouTube says scheduled videos will not publish during that freeze. The video remains private and must be rescheduled after the penalty period ends.
Schedule vs Premiere
A scheduled upload becomes public at the chosen time. A Premiere adds an event layer with a watch page, countdown, reminders and live chat.
For event-style launches, see our YouTube Premieres guide.
