An Indonesian entertainment publisher reportedly averaged $8,700 a month over three months, with a peak month around $29,000. The case is useful because it describes both mistakes and improvements: too many networks at first, conflicting ad code, weak tracking, then a simpler mix of Popunder and Native Banner placements.

Reported case-study metrics

Metric Reported value
Monthly impressions 1.5 million+
Average CPM $3.3
Reported Indonesia CPM $7.8
Average monthly revenue $8,700 over the last three months
Peak monthly revenue $29,000
Formats Popunder + Native Banner

The publisher simplified instead of adding more ad networks

The original story says early monetization used multiple CPM networks simultaneously. The result was conflicting code, messy statistics and poor optimization. The publisher later moved to one primary network and tested individual format changes.

That is a useful lesson for small sites. More ad tags do not automatically mean more revenue. They can increase page weight, create auction conflicts and make it difficult to understand which placement actually works.

Popunder reportedly became the main contributor

The case says Popunder generated roughly 55% of the publisher’s revenue. Native placements were used as a second format. The useful takeaway is not the exact percentage; it is the process of matching format to audience behavior.

Entertainment visitors often arrive for a specific article, consume it quickly and leave. A publisher needs to test whether a format monetizes that short session without making the page unusable.

Regional traffic can still produce a strong business

The reported audience came mainly from Indonesia, with additional traffic from Malaysia, Bangladesh, Singapore and other markets. The case also describes efforts to grow more Malaysian and Singaporean traffic.

A site does not need to target only US users to have a viable ad business. But a publisher should understand which countries provide volume and which provide higher yield.

What publishers can copy

  • Start with one network and one format so the data stays interpretable.
  • Add a second placement only after the first has stable results.
  • Track revenue by country and device.
  • Use editorial clusters that naturally create related-page navigation.
  • Keep ad density low enough that the first mobile viewport still contains real content.
  • Use Search Console and analytics to watch whether monetization changes search behavior.

AI-search fears need careful interpretation

The featured publisher discusses blocking some AI crawlers because of concerns about AI search reducing clicks. That is the publisher’s own strategy, not a universal SEO recommendation. Blocking AI crawlers can have trade-offs and should be evaluated against your own visibility goals.

What the revenue figures do not prove

A $29,000 peak month does not mean the site normally earns that amount. The source explicitly describes $8,700 as the recent average. Revenue can vary with traffic spikes, advertiser demand and seasonality.

Likewise, the reported Indonesia CPM should not be treated as a market-wide benchmark.
