Moving a YouTube channel to another Brand Account can be useful for ownership or business changes, but it is one of the higher-risk account operations in YouTube. If the destination account already has a channel, that channel can be permanently replaced.

What is a Brand Account?

A Brand Account is separate from a personal Google Account identity and can be managed by more than one Google Account. YouTube channels can be associated with Brand Accounts for shared ownership and management.

Before you move a channel

YouTube says you should verify that the Google Account starting the transfer is the primary owner of the relevant Brand Account.

If the channel currently uses YouTube Studio channel permissions, you may need to opt out of permissions and remove invited users before the transfer option becomes available.

The biggest risk: replacing the wrong channel

If the destination Brand Account already has a YouTube channel, moving another channel into it can replace and delete the destination channel.

YouTube warns creators to confirm exactly which channel is being moved and which account is being replaced before selecting the final confirmation.

What can be lost in a transfer?

YouTube currently lists several items that can be lost depending on the source and destination accounts, including:

  • Watch and search history from the source Brand Account.
  • Creator demographic information supplied by the channel owner.
  • Gift settings.
  • Content on a destination channel that is replaced, including videos, playlists and history.
  • The destination channel’s verification badge if that destination channel is deleted.

How to move the channel

  1. Sign in to YouTube with the Google Account associated with the channel you want to move.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open Advanced settings.
  4. Choose the option to move the channel to your Google Account or another Brand Account.
  5. Select the correct destination account.
  6. If a destination channel already exists, read the replacement warning carefully.
  7. Review the final channel identity and confirm the move.

Channel transfer is not a merge

Moving a channel does not combine two YouTube channels. If the destination already has a channel, the move can replace it rather than merge subscribers, videos or history.

Channel permissions vs Brand Account transfer

If your goal is simply to give a team member access, a channel transfer may be unnecessary. YouTube channel permissions can give managers, editors and viewers role-based access without moving ownership.

See our YouTube Channel Permissions guide before deciding whether a transfer is really needed.

Transfer checklist

  1. Back up critical business and channel records.
  2. Confirm the source channel ID and handle.
  3. Confirm the destination account.
  4. Check whether the destination already has a channel.
  5. Review primary-owner status.
  6. Resolve channel-permission conflicts.
  7. Read the deletion warning before confirming.
  8. Check the channel immediately after transfer.
