If SonyLIV is not working on Android, the cause may be as simple as a stale cache or unstable network, but streaming failures can also involve DRM, device support, account state or the television platform itself.
1. Confirm your device is still supported
SonyLIV’s current support documentation lists Android 4.4 and above for mobile devices and Android TV 5.1 and above for televisions.
2. Check Wi-Fi and mobile data separately
Try SonyLIV on another connection. If it works on mobile data but not your Wi-Fi, restart the router and temporarily disable VPN, proxy, unusual DNS or filtering tools.
3. Force stop SonyLIV and clear cache
Open Settings → Apps → SonyLIV → Force stop. Then open the storage section and clear the cache. Avoid clearing all app data unless needed because doing so signs you out.
4. Update SonyLIV from Google Play
The official Android package is com.sonyliv. Older builds may stop behaving correctly after backend or playback changes.
5. Update Android System WebView and Google Play services
If login pages, account menus or payment screens fail to load, update Android System WebView, Chrome and Google Play services, then restart the phone.
6. Live sports buffers but normal shows work
This pattern often points toward connection stability, temporary event load or a live-stream-specific problem rather than a completely broken app.
7. TV activation or login is failing
For supported Android TV, Samsung TV and Fire TV devices, SonyLIV uses a TV activation flow. The television displays a code that can be entered through the SonyLIV mobile app.
8. Casting is not working
SonyLIV says it supports standalone Chromecast generations 1 through 3 and televisions with built-in Chromecast. Its support page also states that phone mirroring methods such as Miracast, MyCast or AnyCast are not supported for this workflow.
9. Older Samsung TV limitations
SonyLIV currently warns that Samsung television models from 2017 or earlier may no longer receive the latest app improvements. The app may continue to work on some older sets with limited features.
10. Reinstall as the final local reset
If the app continues to fail, uninstall SonyLIV, restart the device and reinstall the official version.
Bottom line
The best SonyLIV troubleshooting order is: verify device support → test another network → force stop → clear cache → update the app and Android components → check account/TV activation → reinstall.
