A website visit and a multi-page website session are not the same thing. A campaign that loads one landing page can test availability and first-page delivery, while a campaign that continues through an eligible internal link can test a broader part of the mobile journey.
Traffory’s new internal-navigation option is designed for the second case.
What does internal-page navigation mean?
Internal navigation means continuing from the campaign landing page to another eligible page within the allowed site/domain rules.
This is different from entering a second fixed campaign URL manually. The page itself can provide the navigation candidates through visible internal links.
The session then uses an eligible link rather than selecting arbitrary page elements.
When does a multi-page visit make sense?
A multi-page visit can be useful when the second page is part of the technical flow you want to observe.
Examples include:
- an article linking to a related guide
- a homepage leading to a product-information page
- a category page linking to content
- a documentation page linking to another section
- an internal resource hub where page-to-page navigation is part of the normal structure.
It is less useful when the page has no meaningful internal destination or when your only goal is to verify that the first URL loads.
Why not hard-code every second URL?
Hard-coding a single next page can make every session follow exactly the same path.
Traffory’s internal-navigation design can select from eligible visible links that exist on the page, subject to safety and domain rules.
That allows the site’s actual internal linking structure to participate in the session.
The campaign still remains bounded: it is not permission to leave the allowed site or click arbitrary third-party destinations.
Verified-domain rules matter
A website may contain links to social networks, ad networks, affiliate destinations, external stores and other domains.
Those links should not automatically become campaign navigation targets.
Traffory applies verified-domain and URL-safety checks so internal navigation remains focused on allowed site destinations. Advertising and sponsored links should not be considered valid targets for this feature.
What if the page has no eligible link?
Then there may be nothing valid to navigate to.
A safe system should skip the action rather than manufacture a click. Traffory’s completed-action accounting is designed around actual success, so an action that cannot be completed does not need to be treated as a successful billable event.
This is especially important for pages whose layout changes frequently.
How should you measure a multi-page campaign?
Use our Traffory GA4 and UTM guide as the baseline, then use separate UTM naming for the multi-page campaign.
Google defines an engaged session as a session that lasts more than 10 seconds, contains a key event, or has at least two page/screen views. That definition is useful for understanding GA4 reports, but traffic-exchange sessions should still be analyzed as their own acquisition source rather than mixed with organic users.
Useful measurements include:
- landing page
- page views per session
- event count
- second-page path
- engagement time
- device category
- country, when relevant to the campaign.
Do not use engagement rate alone as proof of business quality.
Basic visit or internal navigation?
Use a basic visit when you want the simplest delivery test.
Use internal navigation when the second page is part of what you are testing.
The question is not “which one produces a better metric?” It is “which session structure matches the technical behavior I want to observe?”
Keep monetized pages separate
If a site uses AdSense or another advertising platform with invalid-traffic rules, do not assume traffic-exchange visits are appropriate for ad inventory.
Google’s AdSense guidance explicitly warns against traffic-exchange, paid-to-surf and auto-surf traffic because it can produce invalid impressions or clicks.
A safer testing approach is to use non-monetized pages or otherwise isolate test traffic according to the policies of the advertising platform you use.
Bottom line
Internal-page navigation turns a one-page visit into a controlled multi-step website test. It is useful when the site owner wants to observe internal routing, page-view tracking or a second page in the mobile flow.
It should remain bounded by eligible links, verified-domain rules and clear analytics separation.
