A practical YouTube Live Redirect guide for 2026 covering eligibility, 1,000-subscriber requirements, redirect permissions, Premieres and creator-to-creator live handoffs.

YouTube Live Redirect lets a creator automatically send viewers from the end of a live stream or Premiere into another live event or Premiere.

Who can use Live Redirect?

YouTube’s current eligibility rules require a channel to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.

What can you redirect viewers to?

At the end of a live stream, viewers can be redirected to:

  • Your own Premiere
  • Another creator’s live stream

A Premiere can also redirect viewers into another Premiere or eligible live stream.

Cross-channel redirects need permission

If you want to send viewers to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow your channel to redirect to it. YouTube provides redirect-permission controls inside Studio.

How to set up a redirect

  1. Open YouTube Studio.
  2. Go to Content and then Live.
  3. Edit the live stream or Premiere.
  4. Open Customization.
  5. Under Redirect, choose the destination.
  6. Save the setting.

Best use case: event chains

Live Redirect is especially useful when one event naturally leads into another. Examples include:

  • Pre-show live stream → Premiere
  • Creator collaboration → partner’s live stream
  • Launch event → product demo Premiere
  • Panel discussion → aftershow stream

Tell viewers what will happen

YouTube recommends warning viewers that the redirect will happen after the event ends. This reduces confusion when the page reloads into another stream or Premiere.

You can also pin a chat message explaining the next destination.

Redirect permissions

YouTube lets channels control who can redirect viewers to them. Options include:

  • Channels you subscribe to
  • All channels
  • Specific approved channels

You can maintain a manual allowlist for specific creator collaborations.

Live Redirect vs end screens

End screens ask viewers to click. Live Redirect automatically moves the audience at the end of the event. For live launches, that can produce a smoother handoff than relying on viewers to find the next video manually.

For pre-recorded video transitions, see our YouTube End Screens & Cards guide.

Live Redirect checklist

  1. Confirm the channel meets the eligibility requirements.
  2. Create the destination before the source event starts.
  3. Check cross-channel permission if redirecting to another creator.
  4. Tell viewers about the handoff.
  5. Pin the destination information in chat.
  6. Test the destination page before going live.
